Frequently Asked Questions
Can this valance made wider than 48 inches?
At the moment we only offer this valance up to 48 inches wide, not wider.
Do I need to attach this valance on a board?
No, the valance arrives ready to hang at your home. We meticulously select the perfect wood board for your size, wrap it in our premium lining and staple the valance onto it in our workroom. The valance arrives ready to hang from a box, with the appropriate angle brackets also provided for you.
Will this valance work on my French doors?
In most cases, it should. See measuring instructions below.
Do I need any hardware?
We already provide angle brackets, but you may use your own if you prefer. The beauty of board-mounted valances is that there is no need to buy any expensive drapery poles or hardware. All you need are screws and anchors.
Is this valance a functioning window shade?
No, the valance is a faux shade. In other words, it’s a stationary valance. The length that you select is permanent.

(In case you’re wondering, the price changes in real time each time you make a change to your custom design. The price is displayed on this page right above the purple “Add to Cart” button.)
How long does it take to ship this valance? Will I be updated?
Depending on the size of your order and whether the fabric is in stock, you could receive your valance in as early as 2 to 3 weeks. However, for most of our customers, the normal turnaround time is about 3 to 5 weeks. We rarely see a 6-week turnaround, but it does happen with some of our larger orders.
We get busier right before the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays due to higher demand. Please plan accordingly.
And yes, we understand this is an important purchase for most of our customers. We take ample measures to update our customers via email at least three to four times during the process.
Is this valance lined?
Yes, the valance includes our premium lining in white as a standard. Interlining is an additional option.
What’s the fraction width?
For outside mounts, skip the fraction width – it isn’t necessary. It’s only necessary if your valance will be an inside mount since the width needs to be exact. For example, if the valance needs to be exactly 45 inches, you’d select 45 inches for the width and 0 inches for the fraction width.
What if I don’t want to add trim?
It’s optional, so you can simply skip it. And if you’ve added it by mistake or changed your mind, you can always delete it in the shopping cart.
What’s a projection on a valance?
Since the valance is installed on a board, the board will have some depth. The projection is how far out the front of the valance is from the part that touches the wall. You may select a 1 1/2-inch or 2 1/2-inch projection.
Which projection do I select?
We highly recommend the 1 1/2-inch projection. Only select the 2 1/2-inch projection if you have a thick molding around your window that can’t be cleared by the 1 1/2-inch projection. For this type of valance, the smaller projection is always the better option if possible.
Can I use this valance with draperies?
Yes, this valance can be installed under draperies. You may select a single drapery and sweep it off to one side, or you may use a pair of draperies.
Can I send you my own fabric if I don’t see one that I like, or need to match the valance to the rest of my room?
Yes, you can. You don’t need to wait around for us to give you a custom quote. If you wish to send in your own materials and pay for lining and labor only, simply select “Customer’s Own Fabric” under fabrics and continue making your other custom selections. Once you complete the last step of the custom design above, you will immediately see the price displayed at the bottom. However, we ask that you please contact us first before actually sending in the fabric. We must pre-approve your selections first, so we may require a fabric swatch or online link to the fabric that you plan to use.
Suggested Measuring Instructions
Standard Instructions
Decide whether the valance will be installed as an outside mount or inside mount.
For inside mounts, measure the exact inside of your window and subtract up to a quarter of an inch (1/4″). This is the width that you will need to order. Make sure to select the fraction width as well, even if it’s 0 inches. Do not skip this step.
For outside mounts, measure the outside of your window, including any wooden frame. Add a total of 1 1/2 to 2 inches to this valance. This style of valance is meant to just barely cover the width of the window.
Special Instructions for Bay, Bow and Corner Windows
For inside mounts, measure the width of each window section and follow the standard measuring instructions above. Do not put two valances side by side unless there’s some wall or mullion space in between.
For outside mounts, follow the same standard measuring instructions as outlined above. Be aware that there needs to be some space in between neighboring windows if the outside mount option is chosen. Since this valance has a small projection, you’ll only need at least 3 or 4 inches of space between your individual corner, bay, or bow windows.
Special Instructions for Arched and Palladium Windows
Valance is installed at the base of the arch. However, since it is board-mounted, it will only work if the window does NOT have a wooden frame for the outside mount option. Please do not purchase this valance if you have an arched or palladium window with a wooden frame and want to install it at the base of the arch as an ouside mount. You may wish to install it as an inside mount instead. The inside mount option will work on any single width arched and palladium window, regardless of whether the window has a wooden frame around it or not. Beyond these basic limitations, follow standard measuring instructions above.
Special Instructions for Patio Doors
Valance is meant to be installed higher on the wall so that its bottom hem falls on the trim around the door. See our product photos above for guidance.
