About This Window Treatment
This gorgeous London style valance is made with ties so that you may adjust its length slightly, as needed. Depending on your chosen width, the length of this valance can be adjusted between 22 and 27 inches while still maintaining its beautiful custom shape. Patterns are matched across seams professionally.
Each valance is fully lined with quality drapery lining. Interlining is optional. The valance can be installed onto a continental rod with a return up to 2 1/2 inches. It has a 3-inch rod pocket for easy installation. Widths that will work with this shape: 42 to 78 inches.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you make this valance in a smaller width than 42 inches?
We cannot. If you have a narrow window, follow the standard measuring instructions below using the installation onto a continental rod. The valance may still be able to fit your window if you select a large projection on the rod.
Can you tell me more about the accent fabric? Which one do I select?
The accent fabric is used for the ties. Most people select a solid color here that is in stark contrast to the main fabric.
Is this valance an inside or outside mount?
It can be both. See instructions below.
Can you make this valance in another width?
Because of its design and construction, this valance must start at 42 inches wide. Keep in mind that home decor fabrics are printed in a limited width on the bolt, so it’s common to have seams on wider window treatments. We pattern-match across our seams to minimize this effect.
How do you measure the length?
We measure the length to the lowest tip (tail on each side) after the valance is adjusted and hung properly. Remember, you’ll be able to manually adjust the length slightly by hand-tying the cord in the back.
What kind of hardware do I need?
You will need a flat 2 1/2-inch continental rod with a 2 to 4 inch projection on each side. A drapery pole with finials may work, but we don’t recommend it. See below for instructions.
What’s the process for buying this valance?
Follow the measuring instructions below to determine what size you need. Next, make your custom selections in the steps above, verify the price, and proceed to checkout just like with any other online purchase.
How long does it take to ship this valance? Will I be updated?
An average sized order for this type of valance typically takes about 2 to 3 weeks. For large orders or if the rare event a fabric is back stocked, it may take 4 weeks. When checking out, we recommend creating an online account to be able to check on your order status any time you’d like.
We get busier right before the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays due to higher demand. Please plan accordingly.
Will the print of the fabric be centered on each festoon?
We always try to bring out the best in each fabric. If your chosen fabric has a large floral, toile, or medallion print, we’ll try to center it to the best of our ability.
Do I need interlining for this window treatment?
You may wish to add interlining if you want a fuller valance and some of its sun blocking benefits. We highly recommend interlining for this particular style of window treatment if it’s wider than 52 inches.
How do I install this valance?
You simply slide the 3-inch rod pocket through the continental rod or drapery pole.
Can this valance be gathered?
No, this valance is meant to hang flat across the rod pocket, as shown.
Where is this valance made?
All our work is created in our Atlanta, GA workroom.
How do I use this valance with draperies?
We recommend not using any draperies over draperies, but layering it under a single drapery that’s swept to one side is a great look.
Can I send you my own fabric if I don’t see one that I like, or need to match the valance to the rest of my room?
Yes, you can. You don’t need to wait around for us to give you a custom quote. If you wish to send in your own materials and pay for lining and labor only, simply select “Customer’s Own Fabric” under fabrics and continue making your other custom selections. Once you complete the last step of the custom design above, you will immediately see the price displayed at the bottom. Please read our guidelines for this process before you check out.
Suggested Measuring Instructions
Standard Instructions
First decide whether the valance will be an outside or inside mount.
OUTSIDE MOUNT:
You must first decide how deep you’d like the projection to be on your continental rod, or the curtain rod that you will use. The projection is how far away the continental rod is from the wall once installed.
Measure the width of your window, including any wooden frames. Add 2 to 4 total inches to this measurement (this is called the allowance) PLUS the projection of the continental rod on both sides (we recommend that the bracket on your continental rod be 2 to 4 inches on each side).
EXAMPLE: If your window, with wooden molding, measures 34 inches wide and you have a continental rod with a 2 1/2-inch projection on each side, you’d measure:
34 + (2 to 4 inches for allowance) + (5 inches for bracket/return – both sides).
The valance that you’d order would be 41 to 43 inches wide.
INSIDE MOUNT:
For an inside mount, you will need a flat tension rod. First, measure the inside of your window at the top and center. Determine which measurement is wider and order a valance in this size. If your measurement is not a whole number, round up to the next whole number.
TIP: Layering draperies over inside-mounted London valances is a great look!
Special Instructions for Bay, Bow and Corner Windows
You’ll need to make sure that there’s enough space between each window section. We recommend at least 9 inches of space between each window section for bay and bow windows and at least 12 inches of space between corner windows. The deeper the projection of the continental rod, the more space is needed.
